GIVING KARATE A BAD NAME
A former karate teacher from the state of Minnesota in the United States of America, who used to teach the martial arts form to young kids in South Elgin and Roselle was found guilty of sexually assaulting two teenage students and was convicted at the local court.
According to the counsel, the case was pretty clear that the 43 year old man, named Dean Fuerstenberg had had sexual contact with the two minors, one aged 13 and the other aged 18 when the incidents happened.
Hailing from Eden Prairie in Minnesota, Dean Fuerstenberg had been teaching the martial arts form to the young kids of the region for almost 15 years before indulging himself with his students. According to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, the sexual acts on the teenagers happened between June 2003 and November 2005 and between May 2001 and May 2006 respectively. According to the reports received, the defense pleaded guilty on having sexual intercourse with the minors but Dean Fuerstenberg added that it was consensual sex and that the two girls had agreed to enter into a physical relationship with him.
Dean Fuerstenberg used to teach karate in several batches and it is being examined if he had committed this heinous crime on other young girls who came to be taught by him as well. The 43 year old man has been indicted on six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse as well as four counts of criminal sexual assault and is currently being held at the DuPage County Jail in Wheaton and his only chance of parole depends on a $ 700,000 bail clause.
This incident has shocked the region and almost all other teachers in the region have come out against Dean Fuerstenberg for bringing a reputed and respected martial arts form like karate into shame.
